The Niagara Orleans Labor Council unveiled its Eagle Monument on Saturday during its annual memorial service for all those who have died on the job. Our own Cheryl Ratigan as well as District 4 Staff Rep Val Thomas, District 4 Director and president of Niagara Orleans Labor Council Jim Briggs, Congressman Brian Higgins of the 26th Congressional District and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul attended the event. The ceremony included a rifle salute from the Marine Corps League of Lockport.
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than 5,000 workers died on the job in 2017 across the country. The Eagle Monument took a year-and-a-half of planning and fundraising to unveil. There’s been a lot of hard work involved to helped install this beautiful memorial and the USW Local 897 strongly recommends you take the time to visit.
