Good evening Brothers and Sisters,
Please be advised that the board members of the union have put much effort into resolving the issue of union members being overcharged union dues. All efforts are in the process of being resolved. Board members met with the staff at the Auditors office a few weeks ago and learned that the issue was caused by the new payroll system going “live” in May of 2023. The system was instructed to deduct 1% out of each union member’s pay during each pay period. The system should have been programmed to collect 1% up to a maximum of $20 per month from each union member.
The manager of payroll has assured the union board members that this issue has been advanced to the top of her list of multiple payroll issues (which includes ensuring that staff are being paid); she hopes to have this issue of union members being over charged for union dues resolved by October of 2023. Once the issue is resolved, the union fees will be deducted each pay period but will not exceed $20 per month.
The union will be reimbursing the overpaid dues for all members who have been affected by this issue. If you have been charged anything over the $20 per month and would like to be reimbursed, please make sure that you submit a copy of your paycheck stubs (reflecting the overpayment) beginning from the first check (when the payroll system went “live”) in May of 2023 (5/12/23) through the most recent paycheck in August of 2023 (8/18/23). Please send the paycheck stubs to the Treasurer, Felisha Wilson Carter at [email protected]. Also, please indicate the address that you would like the reimbursement check mailed to.
Please know that we continue to work effortlessly on everyone’s behalf. Thank you in advance for your patience.
In Solidarity,
Felisha Wilson Carter
Treasurer, USW 9487
** Note: Please feel free to omit all sensitive information on the paycheck stub, with the exception of your name, the line showing the deduction and the date of the check. Thanks in advance!!! **
