Response to "City of Dallas Announces Furlough Days to Help Address FY26 Budget Shortfall"

I would first like to point out our strong opposition to any furlough days for the City of Dallas employees based on several reasons as follows:

1) The City Manager could have explored other options such as reducing the heavy overhead of management. For example, each department has a director, then 3-4 deputy directors, then 3-6 assistant directors, then 2-4 administrators, then managers, then supervisors, then team leads and finally down to the everyday workers getting the work done. We believe this is just absolutely not necessary for a department to operate.

2) The City of Dallas has surplus buildings such as 7800 N. Stemmons, which the City could sell, but is instead still putting a lot of money into to rehab the building; for what purpose? That is money that could have prevented furlough days. Additionally, the City has 9999 Technology Blvd., another high rise building that, when purchased, was a fairly decent building, however it has since been vandalized over and over. The city is paying to keep the property boarded up and the grounds maintained. Again, we believe these are areas that could have prevented any furlough days from occurring.

So it is our stance that due to the extreme mismanagement of taxpayers money by this City Manager and senior level decision makers, the furlough days could have been avoided.
