National Grid is jeopardizing the safety of our communities by locking out 1,100 of its most experienced employees who are critical to ensuring safe and quality gas work in Massachusetts.

Update: 1:35 p.m. we are approximately 250 away from reaching 75%.

We are approximately 350 people away from reaching the target goal of 75% plant-wide vaccination. 

As announced by Lourenco Goncalves today, the vaccine incentive program has been significantly expanded and updated as follows:

* All employees who are fully vaccinated and employees who have at least received one shot of either the Moderna or Pfizer Vaccine by August 21st will receive a $1,500 bonus payment.

 * In addition, if Burns Harbor can achieve at a 75% vaccination rate (including those who have just received 1 shot) by August 21st, we will receive an additional $1,500 bonus payment, for a potential total bonus of $3,000.

The 9/1/18 United Steelworkers Basic Labor Agreement (BLA) provides for a profit-sharing pool of 7.5% of the company’s profits, defined as Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT).  The company reported an unaudited Adjusted EBIT of $443,800,599.42.

The deadline for the 2021 Health Awareness Initiative (HAI) is fast approaching.  In order to qualify for funding in your Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) in 2022, your completed verification form must have a date of service between January 1, 2021 and September 30, 2021 and your form must be submitted no later than November 15, 2021. 

Today, we were notified by the International of the Company’s intent to offer a one-time incentive payment to vaccinated Employees in an effort to limit COVID-19 impact on our facility. This incentive payment program is 100% VOLUNTARY. Whether or not you choose to participate is your personal decision.

Incentive payments will be based on plant-wide participation. The program will run from July 1st through August 21st 2021. At the end of the Program the Company will make one incentive payment to vaccinated Employees based on the participation chart below.

This month has started off with a new approach and different vision. We were able to report a profitable first quarter with the expectation of a rewarding second quarter to follow. Our new CEO, Lourenco Goncalves, and his Executive Management Team met with me to discuss the bright future Burns Harbor has with the Cleveland-Cliffs family. CEO Goncalves stated there were numerous projects earmarked for investment to continue the advancement of our Plant to ensure we remain competitive.

As a result, there was $8,012,466.01 in profit sharing generated for the pool using the Basic Labor Agreement calculations.
