12-Hour Shifts Approved — A Major Milestone for Our Mine

Brothers and Sisters,
We are proud to share that the mine has officially voted in 12-hour shifts. This has been a long time coming, and it marks an important milestone for our workforce. Many members have expressed interest in this schedule change over the years, and the recent vote shows the power of participation and member engagement in shaping the future of our workplace.
Moving to a 12-hour shift schedule is a significant operational change, and with that comes updates to job duties and expectations across multiple departments. These changes are designed to support the new schedule, maintain safe operations, and ensure the mine continues to run efficiently. The finalized job duty expectations outline responsibilities for various classifications in Production, Mine Services, and Maintenance under the new 12-hour structure, including duties during production periods and down windows, equipment responsibilities, and cross-department support work.
We encourage all members to take the time to review the finalized documents so you clearly understand what the new expectations look like for your classification. Staying informed is one of the best ways to protect yourself, your coworkers, and the integrity of our contract. These documents are now available on the union website for easy access.
This change did not happen overnight. It reflects years of conversations, feedback, and member involvement. Whether you supported the change, had questions about it, or simply showed up to vote, your participation matters. Decisions like this shape the direction of our workplace, and they are strongest when members stay engaged and informed.
As we move forward with the transition to 12-hour shifts, the union will continue to monitor implementation, answer questions, and advocate for fair and consistent application of job duties and working conditions. If you have concerns or notice issues as the new schedule rolls out, please reach out to your steward or union leadership so they can be addressed promptly.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the process and made your voice heard. This is a significant step forward for our workforce, and we will continue working together to ensure a smooth transition for all members.
In Solidarity,
USW Local 13214
