Operational Changes Announced by the Company

USW Local 13214 has been informed by the Company of several operational changes tied to current market conditions. The Company has described the business situation as very difficult and has notified the Union of changes that may affect multiple areas and positions.

The announced changes include:

  • Permanent shutdown of the Dredge, affecting 8 positions
  • Elimination of 2 Caustic Relief positions connected to the Dredge shutdown
  • Temporary shutdown of Baby Sesqui for approximately 120 days, affecting 4 positions
  • Combining Crusher and Dissolver operations, affecting 4 positions

At this time, the Company has indicated that it would prefer to avoid layoffs by using the bidding and bumping process to place employees into available positions, including possible opportunities underground. While being forced into another position is never ideal, avoiding layoffs remains an important priority.

Union leadership is actively reviewing all available options and discussing these changes with management. We understand the uncertainty this creates for the members and families who may be affected.

We are sharing this information early to stay ahead of rumors and make sure members are hearing the facts directly from their Union. These changes impact real people, and Local 13214 is committed to doing everything we can to make this process as fair and painless as possible.
