A solidarity rally for HIbbing and Chisholm School teachers will be held on Wednesday September 26th 2018 at 6 P.M. at the MInnesota DIscovery Center.  Come and show your support for teachers and tell the school district that it is time to settle these contracts now.

Please show up and show our local teachers that the members of Local 2705 have their backs, as I am sure they will also support us in our bargaining for a fair and equitable contract!

Your bargaining committee met this morning with U.S. Steel, and it is becoming clear that the company has been surprised by the level of anger and solidarity you’ve displayed.

While of course they would never admit that, they modified their proposal and then within minutes posted it on their website while the union was still reviewing it internally. You undoubtedly understand their play for what it is - another clumsy and bad-faith attempt to try to influence everyone’s first impression and undermine your bargaining committee.

After spending several weeks on local-level discussions focusing on issues specific to our individual facilities, our USW bargaining committee kicked off negotiations on a master agreement with Cliffs this week in Pittsburgh with several days of internal discussions and meetings with company representatives.

This week, our negotiating committee continued to meet both internally within our committee and with ArcelorMittal management while 15,000 of our brothers and sisters at U.S. Steel facilities across the country unanimously granted strike authorization.

Labor Day recognizes the humanity of workers. It commemorates their year-long efforts with time off dedicated relaxation, family, friends, and barbeques.

Typically this site will remain apolitical.  Only issues that could affect your job or your working condtions will be brought to your attention here.  However, it is our belief that it is the responsibility of all of our members to take an active interest in knowing and understanding the issues and knowing which candidates will best represent their views, opinions or beliefs.

USW Local 1938 held their rally at the Miner's Memorial building in Virginia August 30th.  Hundreds of Steelworkers from across the range were in attendance.  I saw many from our own local there to support our union brothers and sisters that work at the USSteel Minntac mine.
