Marcus Smith

Marcus Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in the paper industry, with a background spanning mill operations, workforce leadership, and labor-management relations.

He began his career at Resolute Forest Products, where he built extensive hands-on experience in paper mill operations and later served in Union leadership, including as Local Union Vice President.

Now at Clearwater Paper, Marcus serves as President of USW Local 983, representing members while working across operational and labor-management issues affecting the workforce. His experience allows him to understand both the day-to-day realities of mill operations and the broader challenges involved in contract enforcement, workplace safety, employee representation, and labor relations.

Throughout his career, Marcus has remained focused on strong representation, workplace safety, accountability, effective communication, and productive labor-management relationships in a continuous-process manufacturing environment.
