In the event of a local fatality or life-threatening injury involving a USW member, the United Steelworkers Emergency Response Team (ERT) is available to assist the local union and affected members and families.

When contacting the ERT hotline, have the following information available if possible:

• Victim/member’s name
• Local union number — USW Local 983
• Company name
• Hospital name, if known
• Contact information for the local union representative

The local union should also notify its servicing USW staff representative.

Important: The ERT hotline is intended for fatalities and life-threatening incidents. It should not be used for routine workplace health and safety questions.
