Making Work Work for Everyone
The 2017 BCFED Union Renewal Conference--Making Work Work for Everyone--will be held at the Fairmont Empress in Victoria on October 26-28, 2017.
The conference will start on Thursday, October 26th at 6:00 pm.
Join participants from around BC to explore strategies to help us respond to our changing workplaces. This year's union renewal conference will explore three emerging themes:
- changing workplace demographics;
- the rise of precarious work; and
- broader economic shifts such as the impact of continued globalization, emerging technology and automation.
Workshops
In addition to plenary sessions, participants will have an opportunity to enroll in four workshops throughout the conference.

This year, we are offering two intensive workshops that will include six hours of instruction over two days. Registration for these intensive courses is limited.
Refugee Crisis Installation
At the conference, we will be offering delegates the chance to experience the Canadian Labour Congress' installation “Refugee Crisis.” The CLC describes the installation "as an immersive virtual reality experience that simulates the harsh reality of being forced to flee one’s home as a refugee; but in this case, it’s as if it were happening here in Canada. The experience is an important component of unions’ ongoing work to support refugee resettlement efforts by building empathy and solidarity."
