Laura Jones Dedication Bench

Laura Jones Memorial Bench Dedication 
Monday September 14th at 2:00pm the family of Laura Jones donated  and presented a bench to USW Local 1000 in memory of her. The family invited all of Laura's Union Brothers & Sisters along with family and friends to join them to remember and celebrate Laura. The bench was installed by the flag pole at USW Local 1000.

Sunday September 13th would have been Laura's 44th birthday with the sadness of December 21st being the fifth anniversary of our sister, Laura Jones being called home and gaining her angel wings.

Laura became a member of USW in 2010 at Local 1000 in Corning, NY. By 2014 Laura was involved with her Local Union through WOS, greatly assisting in getting the Local's Next Gen program up and running as well as served on her Local's Executive Board. If you met Laura you would know the passion she had for our Local Union Members.

Laura became the Next Gen Coordinator of her Local before moving on to be a Regional Next Gen Coordinator and her work in this role would lead to her being appointed by the District in 2020 as the District Co-Next Generation Coordinator.

Laura became a fierce activist of the labor movement, served on her area Labor Council, was showcased at the Rockwell Museum in Corning, NY and became a familiar face at many labor events. Laura was honored as District 4’s Syracuse sub-district “Activist of the year” in 2018.

Laura later went on to step her activism once again and showed an interest in organizing eventually leading Laura to accept a position in our International’s Organizing Department in 2021.

Laura was a wife, mother of 3 and a friend to so many. Her contagious laugh and kindness was welcoming to all who had the pleasure of meeting her. In Laura fashion one of her last posts on Facebook was, "don't mourn for me, organize." That we will do Laura!

Laura is missed greatly, until we meet again sister.
