The Women of Steel Local 1000 Female Scholarship Program

The Women of Steel Local 1000 Committee of Corning, NY is implementing a Scholarship Program for a female recipient of the NY/PA area who exhibits strong leadership and community activism. The WOS Local 1000 Female Scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,000 to one selected recipient who meets and fulfills the requirement list below.

This program will require an essay and panel interview before final selection. The panel interview will consist of 3-5 Union Members from Local 1000 & The Southern Tier Labor Chapter.

Program Requirements:

● Female, or identities as Female

● High School Senior

● Resident of the Twin Tiers area of NY/PA

● Exhibits Leadership Skills

● Strong Community Activism

● 2.5 GPA or higher

● Enrollment in College or Skilled-Trade Program or Certification Process

The Women of Steel Local 1000 Female Scholarship Program

The Women of Steel Female Scholarship application deadline for the Fall 2026 Semester is Friday May 1, 2026.

Interested applicants must fill out the standard scholarship application herein, and compose a 350-word essay, as well as provide a detailed list describing their academic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteer/fundraising efforts, activism within their community, and any additional accomplishments that display personal qualities as a young female leader.

Essay Topics- (Choose one)

A) Bridging the Skills Gap:

Analyze how encouraging more women to enter trade schools can help address the national shortage of skilled workers, benefiting both women and the economy as a whole.

B) The Impact of Policy and Legislation:

Research and discuss the role of policies and laws in ensuring equal rights and opportunities for women in trade education and the workforce.

ESSAY GUIDELINES: 350 words, double spaced.
