LMP Update #11

As we approach the close of the second week of June, we are another step closer to the full re-opening of Indiana. We continue to see our Brothers and Sisters called back to work and we are on track for a slow and gradual recovery. However, there are still hurdles we will need to overcome in the consumer market. While price increases have been positive for us, the lay-offs in the automotive industry lasted longer than originally expected, which will more than likely reflect a slow customer demand. Consumer spending has been greatly affected by employment levels and steel recovery will take time.

The Company has recently informed us of their intention to indefinitely idle the Columbus Coating facility, noting they do not have enough demand to operate all of their coating lines. We hope this business decision is not final as this action displaces many of our Columbus Brothers and Sisters.

On a positive note, we are currently in the planning and developmental stages of researching a secure, cost effective way to provide an online service which will allow us to share information. With current events the way they are, technology has been crucial in communications. With technological advances we are on the cusp of potentially seeing arbitrations, as well as grievance meetings, via an online setting. As the world continues to change, we must be able to adapt and change with it. The most important thing is ensuring sensitive information which is meant only for 6787 Members remains protected.

Also beginning Monday June 15th the Main gate will be open again. Gate hours will be Monday 4:30 a.m. through Friday 7:30 p.m. and closed on the weekends.

Some states are experiencing their highest number of reported COVID-19 cases since the inception of this pandemic. Please continue to practice social distancing and good hygiene to protect yourselves and your family. Working together we will get through this.
