LMP Update #12

Although we are in the midst of the final stage of reopening Indiana, we are still experiencing COVID-19 cases within the plant. Most recently, a contractor in Iron Producing was confirmed to be positive.  Management is contacting those who may have been in close contact, which is defined as less than 6 feet for more than 15 minutes per the CDC. If you believe you have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, you may get tested by setting up an appointment at one of the local testing sites and your results may be read online. Please visit https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/2524.htm or call 1-888-634-1116  to schedule a visit. There are no requirements for testing. While this test is free, you may be asked to provide your insurance card.  The reopening of our state has allowed some to drop their guard when it comes to this virus. We encourage you to remain diligent to protect yourselves, your family and your co-workers by wearing a mask or face covering, social distancing by 6 feet or more and utilizing proper hygiene and handwashing procedures every day. Together we can keep each other safe.

As more Employees are called back from involuntary layoff, the plant wide labor pool numbers have been greatly reduced. Next week, we will begin to see ABM housekeeping contractors back in our plant to ensure we have enough people to keep cleaning procedures on track. Even though a letter of understanding outlined in our BLA does not allow the use of non-core contractors if Union Members are laid off, we are allowing janitorial duties to be performed as long as it is by choice of an affected Member. By allowing a preference for furloughed Employees, those at high risk for contracting COVID-19 will be able to remain off of work for a longer period of time. We have reserved the right to enforce the non-core letter if necessary.

Have a safe and happy Juneteenth and Father’s Day weekend.

Pete Trinidad Sr.
