Regarding 16-hour Shifts

Corporate Management has taken the position to limit scheduling to no more than 12 hours in some areas. By issuing this mandate, it does not mean it voids or supersedes any of our agreements.

As history has shown, elected 16-hour shifts can be beneficial to both our Members and the Company. Our workforce has proven and the records reflect, our production levels remain consistent throughout entire 16-hour shifts. We have stepped up when attrition out-paced hiring by taking ownership and ensuring this plant continues to grow, strive and remain productive throughout day-to-day operations, downturns and name changes.

The work performed in this plant is ours. We are capable, we are willing and we want it. Contractors should only be used to supplement our workforce. The Company’s refusal to allow willing members to work 16 hours is having a negative effect on the workforce.  These occurrences are being documented and pursued.

Together we can assure our members, our customers and our plant maintain the quality of steel and of life we have all become accustomed to.
