Your local union has been working hard to defend our contract and strengthen our membership. So far, we’ve been able to accomplish a lot in a short period of time.

This year, we updated our communications. This includes a new website and a text message alert system to which all members can subscribe. We also created an online form that workers can use to report unsafe staffing or other incidents to the union.

We successfully pushed GLH to recognize the part-time status that certain per-diem employees earned by working the required hours. We have accompanied members to disciplinary interviews. We also filed grievances related to:

  • Elimination of in-person new hire orientation;
  • Changes to employee classifications;
  • GLH creation of non-union positions doing union work;
  • Health and safety investigations, and complaints related to asbestos and mold in employee work areas;
  • Mandatory overtime violations of Pennsylvania Act 102
  • And more.

We currently have multiple unfair labor practice charges filed against the employer with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). We will keep you updated on the outcome of these charges as the local and the USW legal team work to support your rights on the job.

Our door is always open, and we encourage you to attend our next local union meeting on April 25 at 6 p.m., which will take place at:

USW Local 1940 Union Hall
519 Electric Ave.
Lewistown, PA.

The more of us who participate, the stronger our union and workplace will be.
