Looking to Fill Vacancies: Trustee and Unit Presidents

Officers in our union are elected every three years.  But from time to time, elected officials leave their office early, be it because of retirement, taking a job somewhere else or any of the myraid of things that sometimes come up in our lives.  When that happens, the union's Executive Board generally appoints someone to fill the remainder of the term for the vacated office.

Currently we have a couple of positions that are vacant, and that we are looking for applicants to apply for.  At the next meeting of our Executive Board IAugust 20) we are looking to vote on filling three vacant positions: Trustee, Unit President for the Essentia Health Ely Clinic, and Unit President for Lakeshore Ecumen.  (Note: In the coming months we will will also be looking to fill Unit President positions at the Grand Rapids Itasca Hospice and the Essentia Health Blue Book, formerly known as SMUMS.)

If you are interested in any of those positions, just email us your name and a paragraph or two that you would like read out to the Executive Board about why you would like the opportunity to be appointed to the role.  If you'd prefer, we can also arrange for you to personally address the E Board.  But please let us know that you are interested by at least August 19.

Below is a quick summary of that the roles of Trustee and Unit President entails:

-Trustees: Our local has three elected Trustees who get together on a quarterly basis to do an audit of the Local's financials.  They also keep track of the union's property, and make sure that no union dues are being used inappropriately.  Audits usually take a couple of hours, and the union reimburses Trustees for the time they spend doing the audits at their regular rate of pay.  Trustees are expected to attend the monthly Executive Board meetings, which are on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 4pm at the Local 9460 office.  They are paid a monthly stipdend of $75.

-Unit Presidents: Each unit has its own president.  They preside over any unit meetings held, appoint the unit's contract negotiating committee (as well as any other committee the Unit sets up), and represent the Unit in a variety of ways.  Unit Presidents are expected to attend the monthly Executive Board meetings, which are on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 4pm at the Local 9460 office.  They are paid a monthly stipend of $75.
