On July 15, 2019, Leo W. Gerard has retired as the International President of our great union - a role he's had for 18 years. Proudly born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Leo rose through the ranks of USW Local 6500, worked as a Staff Representative, then continued on to become USW District 6 Director, Canadian National Director, International Secretary-Treasurer and International President.
Fellow Canadian Carol Landry has also retired as the International Vice President at Large. She is the first-ever woman on the United Steelworkers union International Executive Board, serving since 2008.
Join Steelworkers from across Canada to wish these two amazing Canadian leaders a happy retirement and thank them for their contributions! Please take a moment to sign their retirement cards at: thanksleoandcarol.ca (or mercileoetcarol.ca in French).
There will also be an event celebrating Leo and Carol on Saturday, October 26, 2019 in Toronto. For more details, please visit thanksleoandcarol.ca/celebration.
