Small businesses across Greater Sudbury have struggled terribly throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and many have closed. Meanwhile, ultra-wealthy mining giant Vale has greedily taken $67.7 million from Canadian taxpayers in pandemic wage subsidies that it doesn’t need.

Pandemic wage subsidies funded by our tax dollars should be used to help struggling local business owners and their employees, not to supplement a global mining company that never stopped producing.

Vale appears determined to take even more from our community, by keeping its own employeers on the picket line until it succeeds in cutting vital health benefits that Sudbury workers and retirees need.

Vale must end its attack on health benefits and negotiate an agreement that is good for workers, retirees, our families and the local economy.
