This coming Wednesday there is going to be a solidarity rally in Duluth in support of the striking workers at Essentia Health Deer River. The Deer River workers, who are part of the SEIU union, have been on strike for over a month.  These courageous workers have been out there on the picket line every day - no matter how cold - even on Christmas and New Years. They are fighting to get their wages brought up to the same level as Essentia workers at other facilities, and they're refusing Essentia's proposals to be able to move workers between any facility.

Today is Day 19 of the strike at Essentia Health Deer River. This is an open ended ULP strike by our union siblings in the SEIU union. At the heart of the strike is the fact that Deer River is the lowest paid Essentia facility. Shame on Essentia, and kudos to the workers for taking a stand!

The Steelworkers international convention will be held in Las Vegas from April 7-10. Our local union is entitled to send delegates and observers. This coming month in January we will be voting on how many folks to send and issuing a call for nominations for who will represent us at the convention. If this is something you would be interested, stay tuned in the coming weeks for more info!

The vote count for the Green Book Tentative Agreement with Essentia Health happened tonight at 5pm. It passed. Thank you to everyone who voted and to everyone who participated in our workplace and community actions during negotiations!

The retro pay for the recently ratified new contract will appear on folks November 22 paycheck.
