Our local union will be holding elections for all of our officers this April (President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasuer, Outer Guard, Inner Guard, Guide, 3 Trustees, Unit Presidents, etc.).  Ordinarily we hold physical meetings where members can come and nomiate who they would like to run for what office (and people can nominate themselves as well).  But due to the pandemic, we are unable to hold such in-person meetings.  So instead we are going to be conducting nominations (as well as the elections overall) through the mail.  We have just mailed out instructions for how the nominations process will work this year.  We are posting here that same information.  Read it over, and if you have anyone you'd like to nominate, follow the instructions for how to mail them to our Recording Secretary.  At a later date, you will also be receiving a mailing with the formal elections notice, and the election ballots.

Congratulations to the workers at the St. Luke's Chequamegon Clinic. They voted to ratify their new contract today unanimously!

The Chequamegon Clinic in Ashland will be voting tomorrow on whether or not to ratify their new union contract with St. Luke's. Voting will take place from 11am to 1pm in the Community Room of the Clinic. You must be present to vote, so if you have the day off, you'll need to swing by to cast your ballot. Union staff will be on hand to walk through the proposed changes in the contract, and to answer any questions you may have. We'll also have on hand copies of the Local union's college scholarship applications and free neck gaiters.

Do you have a student that will be attending college this coming Fall? Have them apply for our the Local 9460 Scholarship! We are offering four $500 scholarships for students who will be attending community or tech school; four $500 scholarships for students who will be attending a university, but on a part time basis, and seven $1000 scholarship who will be attending a university or grad school on a full time basis. In the attached link is a PDF of the Scholarship application form (which also has all the info you'll need on criteria and rules).

If you are a member of our union local and a student in your family you are welcome to apply for one of the A. F. Kojetinsky Scholarships that are offered through District 11 of the United Steelworkers.  There is a $5,200 scholarship for students pursueing a four year degree (the "Memorial Scholarship") as well as a $2,600 Vocational Education Scholarship.

Our contracts for the Professional Staff and Support Staff at LSCHC were set to expire at the end of the year. But we have signed an agreement with the company extending both contracts on a month to month basis while we try to initiate contract negotiations under the conditions of the pandemic and LSCHC's computer crisis.

Contract negotiations for our members working at the Itasca Hospice in Grand Rapids are set to start this afternoon. The Negotiating Committee is made up of Michele Fredrickson, Deanna Hughes and Donna Helgerton. Wish them luck and stay tuned for updates on how the negotiations go!
