National Grid is jeopardizing the safety of our communities by locking out 1,100 of its most experienced employees who are critical to ensuring safe and quality gas work in Massachusetts.

Another productive week of bargaining last week resulted in tentative agreements on language including Reduction in Force/Recall, Subcontracting and Temporary Employees.

Our union has been meeting with management for several months to bargain our first union contract. While progress has been slower than many of us had hoped when we first organized, we are making steady progress towards reaching a tentative agreement that union members will have an opportunity to review, discuss, and vote on.

Taking the Time to Get It Right

We reached several tentative agreements during very productive bargaining last week. The very important issues of Probationary Employees, Seniority and Hours of Work have all been settled.

Defining seniority, how it is earned and assuring it is protected during layoffs, and other reasons is a critically important piece of a contract.

Bargaining was very complicated but successful last week. We successfully addressed production and inventory issues in the IGT Wax Department and finally agreed to a very solid Grievance and Arbitration procedure. We also submitted a proposal that would make working on a holiday voluntary.

BARGAINING

Our USW Local Union 9558 bargaining committee met and continued bargaining with the Company last week. It was a productive week and tentative agreements were reached on various issues including: New Hire Orientation, Union Access to the Facility, Call-in and Report-in Pay and Just Cause. There was also very good discussion and additional proposals exchanged regarding Non-discrimination, Safety and Health, and Bargaining Unit Work.

Last week, USW Local Union 9558 bargaining committee met with the Company and continued bargaining toward our first USW Contract. USW District 8 Representatives Fentre Graves and Michael Lewis as well as USW Headquarters Representative, Shane Carlin was present for the bargaining.

This week, your USW Local Union 9558 bargaining committee met with the Company in order to begin bargaining for our first USW Contract. The Local Bargaining Committee is being assisted by USW District 8 Representatives Fentre Graves and Michael Lewis and from the USW Headquarters in Pittsburgh, Shane Carlin.
