Local 6500 entered a team in this year's Allan Epps Hockey Challenge to raise money for Miners for Cancer, winning two of their three games.  The event took place January 26-29, 2023.

 On Thursday, January 26th, USW Local 6500 presented a cheque to the Sudbury Food Bank on behalf of the Steelworkers Humanity Fund. 

The Sudbury Food Bank is so important to our community, and with the difficult economic times, not only is the need increasing, but many Sudburians are finding it harder to dig deep into their pockets to help the charitable organizations they are normally committed to.

The 44th Annual Children's Christmas Party was a huge success this year with lots of happy kids enjoying gifts, snacks and of course, Santa!  

Local 6500 president Nick Larochelle said his own father passed away from lung disease and it’s critical to protect today’s miners from debilitating and deadly illness. “Occupational exposure for diesel particulate in Ontario is way too high,” he said. “Tonight is the start of an important lobbying program to get that number down.”
